Major Investment in New Die Casting Cell

530T Buhler Automated Die Casting Cell

We are pleased to announce the purchase of a new automated high pressure die casting cell.

The cell consists of a 530 Ton Buhler die casting machine, a robotic pouring ladle and die spray and and robotic extractor.

The new cell will increase our production capacity for castings in the range of 1-4Kg  and will be our third 500 Ton high pressure die casting machine.  This will add to our 250T, 400T and 630T machines.

Our current market range includes LED Lighting, Electronics, Ministry of Defense and Oil and Gas production and exploration.

This purchase represents the largest single purchase made by Carlton Die Castings as we continue to invest and ensure we offer  our customers the best possible service.

Carlton Die Castings Achieves Made in Britain accreditation

Paisley based Carlton Die Castings Ltd manufactures gravity and high-pressure die castings in aluminium and zinc. It was founded in 1947.

The company also has an extensive in-house CNC machine shop in order to provide customers with fully finished castings, ready for assembly. Carlton Die Castings has now achieved accreditation from Made in Britain.

Greg Wilson, sales director at Carlton Die Castings, told Made in Britain, “Ours is a family-run business, now in its third generation, and is Scotland’s only gravity and high-pressure die casting manufacturer. Our markets include lighting, oil and gas, Ministry of Defence, electronics and telecoms.

“This is Scotland’s last remaining foundry of its type. We have always been proud of our manufacturing history and a large part of our success has been down to our British supply base and our manufacturing experience. The Made in Britain affiliation promotes our passion for British manufacturing and will help highlight the quality of our product and expertise gained from over 70 years of British manufacturing experience. Now, more than ever, it is important to celebrate and be proud of being a British manufacturer.”

Carlton Die Castings plans to use the official Made in Britain mark on its website and extensively on social media. See its members’ directory profile page here.

Purchase of new Colosio 500T die casting machine and associated equipment

We are very pleased to announce the purchase of a new 500Ton Colosio High Pressure Die Casting machine.

This is our second 500T Colosio machine and the purchase will help increase capacity for existing customers as well as offering capacity for potential new customers.  We specialise in manufacturing aluminium die castings ranging from 0.1Kg up to 8Kg.  The new machine will increase our capacity for castings ranging from 1-4Kg where we currently see the greatest demand.  We expect the machine to be delivered and commissioned during November and running early December.

Our high pressure foundry now includes the following:

1 off 250T machine

2 off 400T machines

2 off 500T machines

1 off 725 Machine

Along with the die casting machine we have also purchased an electric Krownmatic dosing furnace.  This type of furnace feeds directly into the die casting machine and removes the need for an auto-ladle.    Due to the enclosed design of this dosing furnace we will also see a much reduced energy cost during production with an installed running power of 18Kw.

We have also invested in an Adiabatic Water system replacing our water tower.  The new adiabatic system increases our water supply capacity and reduces energy costs.  Health and safety is also improved with the new adiabatic system as there is no longer the same need for Legionnaires Testing which is associated with water towers.

2017 has seen major investment within Carlton Die Castings.  The purchase of a Mazak CNC earlier in the year, together with the die casting machine, furnace and adiabatic system brings our total investment for the year to £400,000.  We will continue to look to the future with investments which help grow the company and provide our customers with the best possible service.

Purchase of a Mazak CNC Machine

We are pleased to announce the purchase of a Mazak twin pallet horizontal CNC machine.  This is our seventh horizontal machine and brings our machine shop to 20 CNC’s in total.

We started our in-house machine shop in 1984 with three machines and it has expanded over the years as customers sought a turnkey supply.  Now our extensive machine shop compliments our gravity and high pressure casting foundry and enables us to supply our customers with fully machined castings ready for assembly.

Our customer base includes castings for safety critical ‘zone 1’ areas, lighting, oil and gas, ministry of defence and electronics.  With operators checking 100% of castings in cycle we can ensure supply to our customers with zero defects
