Carlton Die Castings are one of the UK’s leading manufactures of gravity and high pressure die castings.
Business established by Alan Carlton and the company was named Alan Carlton & Co. At this time only gravity castings were produced.
1947
The company was bought over by John Gilmour Wilson and the company’s name was changed to Carlton Die Castings Ltd.
1951
High pressure die casting was started in-house.
1956
On the death of John Wilson, his son Gil Wilson became Managing Director at the age of 21.
1964
Major contract was won for Hoover, Singer Sewing Machines and Philips.
1968
Vacuum impregnation started in-house. A process used to ensure castings are leak proof and water tight.
1972
The company was bought by Michael Denny Holdings who already owned a plastic injection moulding company. The aim to create a Scottish based manufacturing group.
1975
Carlton Die Castings was bought back by Gil Wilson and the factory moved to its current location at Greenhill Road in Paisley.
1983
Following the award of business from JCB, CNC machining was started in-house. This enables us to offer fully machined castings ready for assembly.
1987
11 pallet Matsuura CNC purchased helping us offer quick change overs and reduced lead-times.
2005
725ton Buhler die casting machine purchased enabling us to offer high pressure die casting up to 8kg.
2006
8 pallet Hitachi Seiki purchased to bring our machine shop up to 19 CNCs.
2012
500T Colosio die casting machine purchased. Our High pressure die casting foundry now has 7 machines.
2015
We continue to offer fully machined castings ready for assembly. Our market range has now grown to include sectors such as zone 1 hazardous areas, ministry of defence, oil and gas, electronics, automotive, hi-fi equipment and telecoms.
